1. MOM Rest Day Requirements
- From 1 Jan 2023, all employers must give their domestic helpers at least 1 rest day per month that cannot be replaced with cash.
- This ensures helpers get proper physical and mental rest.
2. Flexible Scheduling Options
- Rest days can fall on any day of the week, not just Sundays.
- Can be split into two half-days (if both parties agree).
- Deferred rest days are allowed if mutually agreed.
3. Working on a Rest Day
- If the helper agrees to work on her rest day, she must receive extra pay.
- Example: If she earns $650/month, her daily rate is $650 ÷ 26 = $25.
- She gets $25 extra if she works on her rest day.
- At least 1 day off monthly is non-negotiable and cannot be bought out.
4. Respecting Her Time Off
- Discuss her rest day preferences and plans.
- Avoid assigning chores if she chooses to rest at home.
- Don’t contact her for work-related matters on her day off.
5. Support Her Well-Being
- Encourage personal development like attending training (e.g., with FAST).
- Plan ahead for help with kids or elderly care during her rest day.
- Be flexible, fair, and respectful.
Giving your helper proper rest ensures a healthier, happier, and more productive household.
